Mike Nussbaum, Jamie Vann, and Francis Guinan
perform an altered-skit from the
David Mamet play American Buffalo.
An altered-scene in which all telephone references had to be changed
to the George Michael lyric “You Gotta Have a Faith a Faith a Faith!”
Subsequently, the telephone must be replaced with a banana,
only to be claimed back, because it was someone’s from the green room.
There’s a “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” in there somewhere.
If I remember right, I think Jamie Vann is the
altered-scene writer or was it John Henry Roberts?

Top Girls
written by Caryl Churchill
directed by Elizabeth Schwan-Rosenwald
This intriguing play, written in 1982,
begins with a charismatic dinner scene
- hosted by the protagonist Marlene -
in which five historical women,
Isabella Bird, Lady Nijo, Dull Gret, Pope Joan and Patient Griselda,
share their extraordinary achievements with one another.
While the meal begins with humor and delight, more alcohol is
consumed, and the tales of pain and suffering surface to the forefront.
This is just the first scene of a play that challenges
and questions the positioning of women in society and history.
